Advertising

Advertising will be messed up for a while.

After we have a better idea of traffic, we’ll probably be going mainly to one of the larger advertising services. But until that time, we’ll have to make do with a homegrown solution.

One thing you can count on is that it will be, for the most part, CHEAP to advertise on the site. How cheap? well, right now, you can get 1000 impressions for FREE. Send me an e-mail, admin@gotthefire.net

Advertising classes will be global (the whole of the site) or Sponsorship (you provide all the advertising for the contest, that you may or may not suggest). The only type of advertising that will have a minimum spending limit will be Sponsorship, which for the time being will be set to $20 (I said it would be cheap).

After we have a better idea of how things are going to work out, we will probably be doing away with most of the home grown advertising, and replacing it with the advertising service advertisements; we’ll be keeping contest sponsorship and maybe individual page sponsorship for a indeterminate period of time. There WILL be “grandfathered” preferential treatment for initial advertisers; the people who help us get started.

There will be NO advertising from off-site until we sign an advertising service; all ads MUST be served from our servers. full demographic data will be provided. For the time being, text ads only.

 July 3rd, 2009:

I've just added the "family" class of advertising to our ad system; this is added to "general". General ads can appear anyplace on the site where ads are displayed. "Family" ads only display in the contest area, and then only in contests which are deemed to be "family friendly", like the Viceo Recipe contest, Cat Video contest, etc. This was created in response to an organization that decided NOT to advertise where "racy" pictures might be shown, like the best photo and computer generated imagery contest.
